I'm writing this post from my bed, all nice and cozy after a fantastic Labor Day Weekend. I know that time is just a 'social construct' but I seriously do feel a sense of rejuvenation at the beginning of each month, like I was born again and have the chance to look at things with fresh eyes. So far, this September, I have had some great starts, most of which I'll elaborate on in future posts. After a summer of peaks and valleys, where the peaks were few and far between, I'm finally seeing the end of the tunnel - the Mount Everest of peaks sitting in the distance. I'm hoping that this will be my month, 23 will be my year, and things will fall together to springboard me into the future.
They say that Virgos are perfectionists - extremely analytical and detail oriented - and crave practicality. I find this is true in not only how I live and function as a human, but also in how I dress. There's always been something nostalgic about my closet - pieces from different eras, different materials, different cuts and so on are scattered about in a mish-mash of potentiality. However, the clothing that I do collect and cherish most are thoroughly classic, meant to be worn throughout the ages, practical, and, above all, are beautiful to me (because, at the end of the day, you dress for yourself and not for others). I found these linen, high-waisted, cigarette pants in my mother's closet this weekend and begged her to let me have them. To me, they were the perfect pair of pants - something I could picture Marilyn Monroe or the like slinking around in back in the 50s. Even more, being able to have a piece of my mom handed down to me through her wardrobe will always be special to me, as I breathe new light into them in a new decade.
Luckily, I had just the outfit planned for these perfect pants. Stella Collective sent me this classic candy striped top with a twist (literally) that paired well with the 50s vibe I was going for, plus the off-grey stripes were lovely for ushering in the early fall. In addition, I had these oh so perfect cat eye sunglasses from 2SeeLife which accentuated the look and added some modern edge to my outfit with its gold accents (Psst - get 10% off your order online by using my code VENUS10). For shoes, I kept it simple with some sleek, pointy toed mules by Sam Edelman (which I found on sale at Marshall's hollaaa). Tying the brown glasses back in, I borrowed my mother's vintage crocodile bag, which was a beautiful rich cognac color - I adored the unique rectangular shape of it too.
As always, links to outfit details are found below. Cheers to a new month, a new season, and your mother's closet.
